Background
Since its founding in 1973, the University of Fortaleza has gained increasing recognition among Brazilian higher education institutions for its academic excellence. Over the past five decades, the university has graduated approximately 120,000 students who are well prepared to assume significant
professional roles in Brazil and abroad. Unifor offers around 44 undergraduate programs and 11 graduate programs across fields such as Business Administration, Law, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, and Health Sciences, as well as over 100 specialization courses. The campus boasts a comprehensive infrastructure, including laboratories, auditoriums, a library, a theater, recreational and sports facilities, a health center, a cultural center, a community hub, research labs, and a variety of university extension services.
Currently, the University of Fortaleza maintains academic cooperation and exchange agreements with more than 145 universities in 35 countries, enabling students to spend one or two semesters abroad. In addition, the university has double degree agreements with partner institutions in Germany, Portugal, and Colombia. To better accommodate international students who are not proficient in Portuguese, Unifor offers courses taught in English, as well as Portuguese, as a Second Language. All undergraduate programs at the University of Fortaleza are grounded in principles of social responsibility and have made significant contributions to
the development of the Northeast region of Brazil, particularly the state of Ceará. The university’s graduate programs (master’s and doctoral degrees) focus on the development and application of scientific research, consistently generating positive outcomes for society. In addition to its undergraduate and graduate offerings, the university also provides a wide range of practical Continuing Education and University Extension courses.
